Jim Crowley injury: Jockey's comeback to riding delayed by tendon issue but hopeful of return in time for Royal Ascot

Legendary jockey Jim Crowley’s return from a broken leg and pelvis has met with a minor delay but the 47-year-old remains hopeful of being back in the saddle this summer in time for Royal Ascot.

Crowley was injured in a serious fall at York in September last year when his mount Almeraq came down in the feature Garrowby Stakes.

Trevor Whelan was also brought down and his recovery from a broken leg recently suffered a "significant delay" after it was confirmed he required further surgery.

Crowley, famous for riding multiple Group 1 winners in the Shadwell colours, has had to deal with a tendon issue in his leg this month.

Speaking to Your Site Racing on Monday, Crowley said: "I'll make a full recovery but it wasn't healing as well as I would've liked and I had a bit of problem with a tendon in my leg so that needed readdressing, which I did on the Wednesday of Cheltenham [March 11th].

"I'm on crutches rehabbing and I can weight bear. It's probably knocked me back a month but there's not a lot I could have done about it because it needed doing.

"I don't have a date for being back but I'm doing everything I can to get back as soon as I can.

"I'd like to be back by the end of May, that's what I'm aiming for, but whether I'll get there, I don't know."
